there are 2 Nozomi sets ... the original 500 Series
and the all new 700 Series cars -- see below. Both
look like jet planes on the track ... are "sleek
and sexy" and in real life operate at speeds
in excess of 300 km per hour. They are typically
run in 16 unit consists. |

N-scale, they look great in any length. End units
(shown below) are illuminated. Car interiors can
also be illuminated with Kato's #11209 or #11210
LED lighting kits. (See Index Page/Kato). Important:
these cars require a minimum radius of 12-3/8" to
operate properly. They look absolutely great! An "oh
wow" train if ever there was one! |

The
N700 Series Shinkansen is a high-speed train with tilting
capability developed jointly by JR Central and JR West
for use on the Tokaido and Sanyo Shinkansen
lines. The prototype 16-car train was delivered in spring
2005 for extensive testing, and trains entered into service
on July 1, 2007, with eight daily Nozomi service runs.
While overall similar to its predecessor, the Series
700 Shinkansen, the front of the N700 has been redesigned
using airplane technology to produce a more dynamic and
highly aerodynamic nose. Full-production N700 trains
have a maximum speed of 300 km/h (186.4 mph) and tilting
of
up to one degree will allow the trains to maintain 270
km/h even on 2,500 m radius curves that currently have
a maximum speed of 255 km/h. This will allow the Nozomi
trains to shave five minutes off the travel time between
Tokyo and Osaka, dropping it down to a mere two hours
and 25 minutes. By 2011, all regular Nozomi services will
be operated by the N700.
