- MRC
surges forward with another miracle of N-Scale decoder
engineering: with no connectors, no wiring, no machining,
no “dremeling”… the easiest decoder
installation possible. N-Scale railroaders can install
this one piece sound decoder/speaker combination that
replaces the factory installed printed circuit board,
by simply removing the loco body, unclipping the factory
unit, and dropping in the 1644 decoder.
- MRC’s “Brilliance™” sound,
miniaturized to a single drop-in decoder with board
mounted super-fidelity speaker, is virtually “plug ‘n
play”. Just imagine… all 28 NMRA available
functions, and your choices of multiple bells & numerous
horns to give “life” to your DCC N-Scale
loco’s. MRC makes
available a choice of (33) horns, eight-bells, brakes,
air releases, pop
valves,
cooling
fans, coupling
sounds and more. Directional lighting is
included too… to
give “life” to your Kato N-Scale loco’s.
- We
haven’t forgotten power pack users! MRC’s
sound decoders are dual-mode decoders so DC railroaders
can get brilliantly synchronized diesel rumble sounds
on their layout as well. Requires "Black Box" shown
below for non-DCC layouts.

Are
Loco Sounds Only For DCC Guys? …Not Anymore!
- It
can be used in analog DC with any NMRA compatible
dual mode decoder, eg: BLI/QSI, Atlas, Life-Like,
Athearn, MTH, Precision Craft, etc.
- Instead
of having to buy a control box from every company
to operate only their locomotive, this can operate
them all. so all you need is just one box.
- It
operates all the sound functions that the particular
loco has inside of it.
- It
is a very simple 4-wire hook-up - two wires to your
DC powerpack's variable output, and two wires to
the track.
- If
you use non-decoder equipped locos the BlackBox must
be removed from the powerpack to run them.
- The
BlackBox can be used in a layout with block control,
[cab A/cab B], as one of the cabs so you can run
sound loco's on one cab, and normal DCC locos on
the other.
