"holiday specials" and "Santa Trains" are run each year ... perhaps the best publicized
is the Christmas Express train that runs out of
the City Of Hope in Duarte, CA where it picks up
a load of injured and/or
terminally ill children and takes them for an unforgettable
ride--complete with Santa Claus and gifts for the passengers.
Upwards of 16,000 children ride each year.
BNSF has also hosted a series of special “Holiday
Express” train rides for military personnel and
their families to help make their season a bit brighter
and as the railroad's "Thank You" for serving our country.
More than 1,800 members of military families in Wyoming,
South Dakota, North Dakota and Montana were given a
ride on the “Holiday Express” in Sioux
Falls, S.D. In previous years the Holiday Express was
a unique vintage passenger
train decorated for the holidays. Passengers were treated
to special holiday snacks, given a commemorative holiday
ornament and visited by Santa.
It's a real nice gesture on the part of BNSF.

This is a prototype Christmas model. It is based on Milwaukee Road Caboose #02012, built in 1946 at the Milwaukee Road shops and put in many years of service throughout the system. Now privately owned, the caboose was completely refurbished to its original look and resides in Central Wisconsin. It can be seen a few times each year, often being pulled by restored SOO #1003 (2-8-2) when it is out and running. For several years now, the caboose has been decorated with Christmas wreaths and a large “Santa” banner is hung on the sides. Santa then visits several communities along the tracks in late Nov and early Dec. This year we are happy to add “Santa” banners to our 1946 built caboose with a low bay window and straight frame trucks. Your N Scale Santa will be able to roam your layout in style this winter with a prototype Christmas Caboose. |
