Prototype
Information:
The
City of Los Angeles made its inaugural run on May
15, 1936. It was a streamlined train that connected
Chicago, IL and Los Angeles, CA. Operated on the
western leg by the UP and on the opposite end, by
the C&NW
until 1955, when the Milwaukee Road handled the chores.
The
City of Los Angeles was the top of the line Union
Pacific passenger train which successfully competed
with the ATSF Super Chief and the RI/SP Golden
State. Many of the train's
cars bore the names of locales in and around the
city of Los Angeles.
In
the mid 50's the City of Los Angeles was featued
in the popular I Love Lucy on 2 consecutive episodes.
And Ronald Reagan often travelled on the train
and did a full page print advertisement for the
National Geographic magazine ...In 1960, with passenger
service in decline, the City of Los Angeles was
combined with the City of San Francisco.
